Paragliding in the middle of the Himalayas might be a dream for many, but how about a route stretching 200 kilometres in just one go? A professional paraglider from New Zealand recently took up the challenge and posted a video of his adventure on Instagram, leaving viewers thrilled and stunned.
With a GoPro mounted to his headgear, Benjamin Kellett started from Bir Billing in Himachal Pradesh, one of India’s most popular paragliding sites. He was visibly awed by the majestic view of the mountains and lush green forests while flying over Himachali cities.
During his journey, Kellett kept calculating the altitude and shared updates with his followers. Dharamshala was visible at a distance. Kellett mentioned that his final destination was right past the city. He was excited after spotting a tea shop, they had encountered on their way to Bir Billing. He completed the 200-metre fly in six and a half hours.
“After a 12-hour taxi ride back to Bir, we got 5 hours sleep and decided to have a crack at the classic 200km flat triangle from Bir Billing. The conditions were amazing and were by far the easiest 200km I’ve ever flown 6.5 hours,” Kellett shared in the caption.
His video went viral, with users dropping their reactions in the comment section. One of them hailed Kellett for “enjoying India more than Indians”.
“Our anti-drone missile system has been active for a few days, so be careful,” quipped another.
Overwhelmed by the Himalayan beauty, a user said, “Bro said Day 1 in the start and gave us this Earth Premium tour.”
“Serious question – toilet breaks?” asked one. “I have seen you guys flying by IIT Mandi,” claimed one. Another simply said, “This is the ultimate flex.”
A person shared, “I had my first paragliding experience at Dobhi. 20 minutes felt like hours. I can’t imagine people flying for 5 hours.. unreal mate!”
A user suggested Kellett should open a paragliding school here in India. “I’m jealous in my own country,” admitted another.
Kellett, who has more than two lakh followers on Instagram, has seen his paragliding video garner over two million views.
