
After meeting India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Mohammad Yunus government of Bangladesh has started action against those attacking Hindus. On Monday (December 9, 2024), Vikram Misri visited Bangladesh, where he expressed India’s concern over attacks on minorities in front of Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus and Foreign Secretary Mohammad Jasimuddin. A day after this, 70 people were arrested in 88 cases registered regarding the attacks.
According to The Daily Star, Mohammad Yunus’ press secretary Shafiqul Alam said that this action has been taken in connection with the violent incidents that took place between August 5 and October 22. He also said that information regarding the cases after October 22 will also be given soon. Shafikul Alam said that those who commit such violence and heinous acts in Bangladesh will not be spared, everyone will be punished.
When Shafiqul Alam was asked whether people associated with political parties were also included among those detained, he said, ‘No one has been arrested on political identity. Whoever was suspected or accused has been arrested. However, 88 cases have been registered regarding attacks on minorities and it was found that most of the cases were those in which members of the previous ruling party had to face violence. In such a situation, how will it be known whether he faced violence because of his religion or whether there was violence against him because he was a worker of the previous government.’
