In the digital age, youth are often seen struggling with emotional trauma. In such a situation, Delhi University is going to start a new optional course for graduation students from 2025-26 academic session. This course is named ‘Negotiating Intimate Relationships’. & Nbsp;
Psychology Department will start this course. It is worth noting that this course was listed on the official website of the university since 2023, but now it is being formally started for all students of graduation & nbsp; This is a four credit course, which students of any faculty can choose.
Why this course needed?
In today’s time, relationships through social media and dating apps are formed and deteriorated rapidly. In such a situation, many times students start struggling with emotional trauma. The university believes that such academic guidance will promote emotional understanding and mental strength among the youth. In recent years, incidents of toxic relationship, mental stress and violence have increased among college students. In such a situation, this course has become the need of the hour.
This course is divided into four units
- Psychological understanding of friendship and close relationships
- Theories related to love and sexuality & ndash; Such as Sterinberg’s Triangle Love Theory and Two-Factor Theory
- Identification of dangers in relationships & ndash; Such as irritation, emotional control, and violence
- Strategy for creating healthy and permanent relationships
How will this course study?
Students will have to do three lectures and a tutorial every week. There will be no practical, but the tutorial will include activity like film reviews, group discussion, analysis of social media and debate on dating culture.
