A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) tracked down a vegetable vendor who had helped him during his college days. Fourteen years ago, when Santosh Patel was studying engineering in Bhopal, there were times when he didn’t have enough money to buy food. During those difficult moments, the vendor would offer him free vegetables. A video of their emotional reunion has since gone viral, warming hearts online.
“I met Salman Khan when I was studying engineering in Bhopal. He used to understand my situation and give me vegetables for free. When we met suddenly after 14 years, we both were very happy. Forgetting someone who stood by you in bad times is no less than a sin. A person should not have one fault, he should not be ungrateful,” reads the caption to the video when translated from Hindi to English.
The video opens to show Patel asking the vendor his name, to which he replies, “Salman”. Patel then asks if Salman recognises him, and when Salman confirms, Patel steps out of his official vehicle and hugs him warmly.
Patel goes on to narrate how Salman helped him during his college years. “From 2009 to 2013, I stayed here. Whenever I didn’t have enough money for food, he would give me a brinjal and a tomato for free, out of friendship. Before closing his shop every day, he’d always make sure to hand me a brinjal and a tomato. I would use them to make curry and eat it.”
Towards the end, Patel presents Salman with a box of sweets, some cash, and even shares his phone number, assuring him that he can reach out whenever he needs help.

Here’s how people reacted to the heartwarming video:
“Sir, I also take veggies \from here. He is a kind and an honest human. Such people are very few in today’s time. Anyway, I am also preparing for MPPSC,” wrote an individual.
Another added, “Remembering things from decades ago and after becoming a police officer, admitting it on camera and posting it on social media, believe me it requires a lot of courage, you are really great sir, lakhs of salutes!”
“You are greater than Salman, sir, because you remembered Salman and went and met him. Otherwise in today’s times people have become so selfish that they don’t even go to meet their own .Really, you are a big hearted person, and I salute you, sir,” expressed a third.
A fourth joined, “A lovely example of believing in gratitude. Both stay blessed.”
