A Chandigarh-based doctor recently shared her disappointing experience at a 5-star hotel in Pune. She revealed on social media that upon checking in, her room was changed without prior notice or any explanation. Despite this, she accepted the new room. But her stay took a worse turn after returning from the hotel’s spa, as she found a used comb in a sealed package. She decided to raise the issue to the hotel’s General Manager (GM), but claimed he was “rude, condescending and dismissive.” She strongly criticised the luxury hotel for lack of professionalism and called their practices “disgusting and unhygienic.”
Taking to X, the doctor explained, “Checked in to Hyatt Pune, only to find my room was changed without any prior intimation. No explanation, no apology, no courtesy. Just a silent switch. But I was accommodated. But then went to their spa, came back to my room and opened a sealed comb package and found a comb that looked USED. Recycled hotel amenities? Disgusting and unhygienic. If they’re reusing combs, what else are they reusing? Toothbrushes? Horrifying to even think about. Raised my concerns with GM Sandesh Parab and that’s when things went from bad to worse. Instead of listening, he was rude, condescending and dismissive.”
“When I told him not to do this and that social media can make or break reputations these days, he shouted at me and said, ‘Do what you want, I’ll see what I need to do.’ I asked his permission to take his picture to highlight the issue, he became nasty. This is how Hyatt Pune GM treats guests. A 5 star hotel with zero hygiene standards, recycled amenities and a General Manager who bullies customers? Unacceptable, is this your hospitality standard?”

Reacting to the post, a user wrote, “I faced a similar issue once and since then I made it a habit to pick up the toiletries including the laundry bag, so that nothing can be recycled, because most of this stuff is unwanted, I dispose of them in some garbage bin en route. But I do not leave such items behind to be reused.”
“That is shocking behaviour by the GM. If I were the boss, I would have investigated and probably sacked him for lack of propriety and probably sacked a couple of other senior managers for substandard hygiene. Arrogance and shabby standards have no place in the service industry,” a comment read.
An individual jokingly suggested, “He was recently promoted and is surely going through some performance anxiety. You should have prescribed iRed Super Combo to help him perform better.”
Another mentioned, “Hyatt has this reputation of being unfriendly and disrespectful to their guests. I feel the chain’s hotels in 3 tier cities are not well trained.”
One more added, “When a hotel recycles sealed amenities, they’re not just betraying customer trust – they’re gambling with health and safety. The real question is: if they’re willing to cut corners on visible items like combs, what’s happening behind the scenes? This needs immediate attention.”
