GST Notice To Pani Puri Seller: A pani puri seller (golgappa seller) from Tamil Nadu has received a GST notice for receiving online payment of Rs 40 lakh in the year 2023-24. A notice making such a claim has gone viral on social media platforms and has also sparked debate on Reddit. A photo of a summons issued on December 17, 2024, is currently floating on social media, which was issued under the provisions of Section 70 of the Tamil Nadu Goods and Services Tax Act and the Central GST Act. In this, the golgappa seller has been asked to appear personally and present the documents.

The summons, seen in Livemint’s report, tells the pani puri seller, “Based on the reports received from Razorpay and PhonePe, you have received UPI payments for outward supply of goods or services and for the years 2021-22, 2022- The payments received for 2023 and 2023-24 are shown below. You have received Rs 40 lakh in 2023-24.

There was an uproar on social media

This GST notice has created a stir on social media and judging by the comments, some people are wondering if it’s time to change their career!

The notice also states that supplying goods/services without obtaining GST registration even after exceeding the limit is an offence. Many social media users have given different reactions to the notice. However, ABP News cannot confirm the authenticity of the viral notice, nor has Live Mint done so.

An ex user said.. “He has received an amount of Rs 40 lakh and this may or may not be his income… You have to deduct the raw material cost, man power cost and fixed charges etc. It may be He is earning just enough to sustain himself,” “

Another Reddit user said, “It would be better if he gets himself registered under GST.”

One Reddit user called it a good move and said, “This should be done for all those business owners who don’t pay taxes and earn too much. We taxpayers have to pay more taxes because of them.” However, some users also expressed doubt on the notice and one user said, “Yes, it is possible to earn so much by selling Panipuri, but it actually looks fake, which can be easily photoshopped.”
