Ed Sheeran is making sure his Indian fans feel special. The global music star has shared a fun new video that is now winning hearts especially among his desi followers. And the reason is not just the location, it is how he chose to embrace local vibes in his own musical way.
In the video, Ed is seen riding in an auto-rickshaw through the streets of Telangana. This is evident from a rickshaw passing by in the background that has a Telangana registration number on its plate. The camera is attached to his body, so viewers get a close-up, first-person look at his experience. He is seen smiling and waving at people as the auto moves through the streets. But that’s not all. The background of the video features a snippet from his upcoming song Sapphire. The song is part of his next studio album, Play, and is set to release on June 5.
The Instagram caption read: “Riding around the streets of India missing high fives. Sapphire out June 5th, 8:30am ET / 1.30pm BST / 6pm IST.”
While the auto ride itself is a fun surprise, what really got fans talking is the Punjabi twist in the track. Yes, Ed sings a line in Punjabi. That moment is short but has already made a strong impact.
The English lyrics in the clip go: “Like fireworks in the sky, Sapphire! Touching on your body, while you’re pushing on me. Don’t you end the party, I could do this all week. We’ll be dancing till the morning, go to bed, we won’t sleep.”
And then comes the Punjabi part: “Cham cham chamke sitare wargi. Sapphire!” According to reports, singer Arijit Singh helped Ed with the Punjabi lyrics.
Ed’s enthusiastic post got fans talking and they couldn’t wait for his new song. In the comment section, the excitement was clearly visible.
One user commented, “This is gonna be THE SONG of the Year.”
Another added, “So excited for this! Sounds amazing.”
Someone else jokingly wrote, “Someone please give him an Aadhar card already.”
“In love with this song already!! Can’t wait,” an excited fan shared while one remarked, “Ed became more Indian than Indians.”
Ed Sheeran was in India earlier this year for his Mathematics Tour. He started the tour in Pune on January 30 and performed in cities like Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru and Shillong. The tour came to an end in February 2025.
