A Bengaluru techie alleged that he was denied parking only because he asked someone to move in Hindi. In a long post on LinkedIn, the software engineer working at Google stressed that English should be made a mandatory language.
“Today, I was denied parking just because I asked the person to move aside in Hindi,” said Arpit Bhayani in a LinkedIn post.
He further mentioned why English is important and why there’s a need to make it a mandatory language.
He argued that locals of any state who talk about preserving their language and culture do not enroll their children in schools that teach in the regional language.
“To everyone talking about preserving language and culture, whether in Maharashtra, Karnataka, or any other state, are you actually enrolling your children in schools that teach in the regional language, or are they studying in English-medium schools?,” he said.
He further added that the younger generation is more comfortable speaking in English.
He also cited examples from daily life—ranging from English-dominant packaging and restaurant menus to medicine labels and mobile apps— and argued that India is inching closer to English becoming the most commonly used language, especially among the younger generation.
“Let’s be honest,” he continued, “We’re surrounded by English everywhere… Why not just make English a mandatory language while still keeping your regional language as a second one?”
He concluded the post with an appeal: to move past divisive language politics and focus on pressing national issues such as infrastructure, education, employment, healthcare, and climate change.
His post comes amid the ongoing row over a video of an SBI manager allegedly refusing to speak Kannada with a customer in Bengaluru.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah condemned the incident and appreciated SBI for transferring the manager.
The manager later issued an apology, saying that she would try to converse in Kannada.

A second wrote, “Arpit Bhayani, this happened to me once. My first thoughts were exactly matching what you have in your post, but then I started overthinking… maybe they are right; If locals don’t preserve their culture, then who will? (but of course violent actions are no no :p)”
