Daughters are shining in science! For the first time girls more than Arts passed through science stream

A new and inspiring picture has come out about the education of daughters in the country. For the first time it has happened that the number of girls passing through science stream in 12th standard has increased more than girls passing from Arts stream. This information has been revealed after the analysis of the results of 66 education boards by the Central Government.

According to the report of the Ministry of Education, in the year 2024, 28.1 lakh girls passed the 12th science stream, while 27.2 lakh girls passed the examination with Arts. These figures show a big change. Compared to previous years, in 2022, 28.2 lakh girls were passed with arts and only 23.3 lakh girls were passed with science. In 2023 too, Science (25.6 lakh) was behind Arts (29.6 lakh).

The popularity of science stream increased continuously in 11 years

Statistics from 2013 to 2024 show that the number of students passing 12th from science stream has increased continuously. In 2013, where 36.3 lakh students passed 12th from science, in 2024 this number reached 61 lakh. The number of girls has also increased from 13.4 lakh to 28.1 lakhs.

Government schemes and facilities became assistants

The Ministry of Education has credited this change to the availability of Atal Tinkering Labs (ATLS), Smart Classroom, subject based laboratories and qualified teachers in schools. Also, under the overall education scheme, many measures have been taken to advance girls in studies.

Daughters of disadvantaged sections are also ahead

It was told in the report that now girls coming from backward classes and scheduled tribes are also taking more options for science stream. In 2013, where 1.7 lakh girls from these sections passed from science stream, in 2024 this number has increased to 4.1 lakh. 60,000 students of the ST community were passing science in 2013, which has now increased to 1.4 lakhs.

Commerce stream declines

However, during this time the number of students in commerce stream has decreased. In 2022, where 18 lakh students passed 12th from commerce, in 2024 this figure has come to 16.8 lakhs.

Pass percentage improves, but challenges in some states persist

The ministry says that the percentage of passes of 10th and 12th in almost all the states of the country has improved. But backwardness has been seen in some states like Karnataka, Jammu and Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh.

Demand for more seats for further studies

School Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar said that now when the interest among the students is increasing in the girls, especially girls, it is necessary that the number of seats for stem courses in higher education should also be increased. It will be ensured by meeting states that students do not face any problem in further studies.
