Dadi-Nani Ki Baatein: One should not marry in the same clan, why do grandmothers say

Grandmother’s care: Every religion has its own rules and traditions for marriage. Talking about Hindu religion, there are many rules of marriage in Hindu religion, which are important to follow. Due to these rules, customs and traditions, the importance of marriage in Hindu religion increases, due to which the relationship remains sweet and strong after marriage.

One of the many customs related to Hindu marriage is not marrying within the same Gotra. Just as there is a tradition of matching horoscopes before marriage, similarly Gotra matching is also done. If Gotra is same then marriage is not done.

The elders in the house or the grandmothers also often say that marriage cannot take place if people belong to the same Gotra. Even today many people do not know the exact reason why grandmothers and grandfathers refuse to marry within the same Gotra. Let us tell you that there is a scientific reason behind the religious belief of not marrying within the same Gotra. Let us know about it-

what is gotra

Before knowing the reasons for not marrying within the same Gotra, let us first understand what Gotra is. Astrologer Anish Vyas explains that the classification of Gotra came into existence since the Vedic period. Gotra Saptarishi (7 sages) are Angiras, Atri, Gautam, Kashyap, Bhrigu, Vashishtha and Bharadwaja.

That’s why marriage does not happen within the same clan

In Hindu religion, marriage within the same Gotra is prohibited because having the same Gotra creates a brother-sister relationship between the boy and the girl. Due to having the same Gotra, our ancestors also become the same. In Hindu religion, people belonging to Same Gotra are also considered as close relatives. That’s why grandmothers forbid marriage from the same Gotra. In the scriptures, marriage is permitted without leaving three Gotras.

What is the scientific reason?

According to science, marriage within the same Gotra can result in similar genetic defects between the couple. Due to mismatched genetic and hybrid DNA, the couple may face problems in conceiving children in the future.
