In Pune’s Ranjangaon area, six people were injured when a police constable, allegedly driving under the influence, lost control of his car late Sunday night (October 12). The incident took place around 11 pm, and the constable, identified as Hemant Iname, was returning home after duty hours.
Witnesses said he appeared drunk and rammed his vehicle into pedestrians and two motorcycles. Locals at the scene reportedly confronted Iname, who was in plain clothes, before police arrived.
All six injured, including the constable, were rushed to a nearby hospital. As per Deccan Chronicle, a case has been registered against him for drunk and rash driving, and his blood samples have been sent for testing, officials said.
What Happened During the Crash
Eyewitnesses reportedly said Iname’s car first hit pedestrians walking along the roadside and then collided with two motorcycles. People nearby tried to help the victims, while others confronted the constable after the crash. The accident also caused an auto-rickshaw to overturn, adding to the chaos on the road.
A CCTV video shared online shows the moments of the crash. The footage captures a busy road where two white cars are parked. Suddenly, Iname’s car crashes into pedestrians and bikes, causing dust and smoke to fill the scene. People run to help the injured, while a crowd gathers quickly around the accident site.
The video has gained over 55,000 views on X (formerly Twitter) since it was posted on October 16.

Many online users expressed anger and concern after watching the video.
A person commented, “What a disgrace… an accident has occurred, but instead of helping, those three guys in white t-shirts just watched. Pathetic.”
Another wrote, “Drunk policeman, interesting,” while others criticised Pune for rising drink-and-drive cases. “Pune is creating new records in drink and drive cases,” a user said.
Some expressed doubts about justice, noting that a police officer was involved. “No justice will be found here either, police is not involved after all,” an individual added.
Investigation Underway
Authorities reportedly confirmed that a case has been filed against Hemant Iname under sections for drunk driving and rash driving. His blood samples are being tested to determine the level of alcohol in his system. Officials said the investigation is ongoing, and strict action will be taken based on the results.
