Public displays of affection (PDAs) at the Delhi Metro make headlines every now and then. This time, however, a similar act in the IT hub of Bengaluru has captured everyone’s attention. A viral video of a young couple behaving inappropriately while waiting to board a train has sparked an intense debate online.
The video, reportedly taken at the Madavara metro station, shows a boy inserting his hand inside the girl’s t-shirt while they were surrounded by other passengers, including elderly citizens. The couple indulged in this indecent act even as several passengers were standing close to them.
The video sparked widespread outrage, with many expressing disapproval over the couple’s behaviour and urging authorities to take strict action against such acts and ensure that public spaces remain safe, clean, and respectful for everyone.
The video was uploaded on social media platform X by ‘Karnataka Portfolio’ late on Thursday night with the title, “Is Bengaluru heading towards Delhi Metro culture??? Disturbing public behaviour at Namma Metro station raises questions about decency in Bengaluru.”
“It is extremely disappointing and concerning to witness the kind of behaviour that some individuals are now displaying in public spaces,” the post said. “Such actions, especially in a public place like a metro station, are completely unacceptable.”
“Public spaces are meant for everyone children, women, families, elders – and to see people treat them as private zones for intimate behaviour is both disrespectful and disgraceful. It reflects a growing lack of shame and decency among certain individuals who seem to have no regard for public conduct or the people around them,” the post further said.
Some netizens also agreed with this sentiment that the line between affection and public indecency should not be crossed. However, others objected to the uploading of the video without blurring the faces of the young couple.
“They should be identified and guided about public indecency in a public place and they should be strictly instructed to restrict it to their privacy. But, identity should not be revealed on social media platforms,” a user commented. Another said, “Simply capturing and posting the video online achieves nothing but public shaming and sensationalism.”
