First, a tornado, now a volcano, has become the hottest new proposal trend. Just last month, a man in South Dakota got down on one knee with a massive tornado swirling in the background. The moment went viral, capturing the internet’s imagination. Now, another couple has cranked up the drama, this time, proposing in front of molten lava. Yes, really.

Mark Stewart, a resident of Washington, D.C., shared a series of dramatic pictures on Instagram where he is seen proposing to his girlfriend, Olivia Post. Mark popped the question in front of Kilauea, one of the most active volcanoes in the world, located in the Hawaiian Islands. In the photos, lava can be seen spewing into the air, lighting up the scene as Mark holds out the ring. The moment was not just bold, it was breathtaking.

And of course, a proposal this spectacular (and risky) got a big, happy yes from Olivia. The post also features a sweet shot of the couple embracing after the big moment. In the caption, Mark wrote, “Yesterday I proposed to my long-time girlfriend Olivia Post, she said yes! It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience to do so in front of Kilauea. Thank you, Pele, for this moment!”

Take a look:

The photos got a lot of attention after they were shared by the popular Instagram page. And just like the lava, the reactions kept flowing. The comments section was filled with praise, jokes and full of fun wordplay.

One user commented, “This is so wild and on fire mark!! Congrats, you two!! What an epic proposal!!!”

Another said, “Okay, this 100 per cent deserves the epithet ‘epic.’ Congratulations, lovebirds,” while someone declared, “The coolest engagement photo I’ve ever seen.”

“You are the lava of my life,” read one cheeky comment.

“Literally till death do us part,” a person remarked.

And then came even more reactions such as: “The hottest proposal ever, “No cold feet for this couple, “Love is on fire” and “I hope they have lava cake at the wedding.”

Back in January, when massive fires swept through Los Angeles, many residents were left dealing with the damage and loss. For one couple, though, a heartbreaking moment turned into the most special one of their lives.

According to Accuweather.com, Brian McShea and Stephanie Raynor lost their home in Altadena to the fires. While looking through the debris, Brian found the engagement ring he had hidden in a drawer, planning to propose to Stephanie. Right then and there, he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him while holding the ring. Even in the middle of destruction, that small moment brought hope and a fresh start.
