A police constable from Chandigarh was suspended after a video of his wife dancing on a zebra crossing, causing traffic disruptions in the city, went viral.
Ajay Kundu, a cop stationed at Sector 19 police station, found himself at the centre of controversy after his wife, Jyoti Kundu, posted a reel on Instagram on March 22.
The video shows Jyoti dancing to a popular Haryanvi song on a busy road. The reel quickly went viral and caught the attention of local police.
The video, which shows Jyoti casually dancing amidst the traffic, gained widespread attention online. However, what seemed like an innocent moment quickly turned problematic when it was discovered that the dance was causing a serious traffic obstruction.

Vehicles were reportedly backed up, and the flow of traffic came to a complete standstill as Jyoti and her sister-in-law, Pooja, filmed the act without paying attention to the vehicles and pedestrians around them.
The police, alerted by an informant, launched an investigation into the incident. The informant, who saw the video circulating online, claimed that the two women were so engrossed in making the video that they endangered their own lives, as well as the lives of others on the road. The informant also pointed out that the dance caused significant disruption, increasing the likelihood of an accident, Hindustan Times reported.
Acting on this tip-off, a police team, including ASI Baljit Singh, reviewed CCTV footage from various locations, including Gurudwara Chowk and the Police Control Room.
The footage confirmed the informant’s statement, showing a woman in a yellow suit dancing in the middle of the road while another woman filmed her. As a result, an FIR was registered under Sections 125, 292, and 3(5) of BNS for obstructing traffic and endangering public safety.
