The Jeddah Economic Company Tower (JEC) is set to become the tallest skyscraper in the world, spearheaded by Saudi Prince Al Waleed bin Talal Al Saud. This landmark project is a key element of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. Designed by the renowned architectural firm Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill, the JEC Tower will surpass the Burj Khalifa, a structure also designed by Smith. The tower will incorporate cutting-edge technology and set new benchmarks in environmentally responsible engineering. Despite facing numerous challenges during construction, work on the project is now progressing at a rapid pace.
Currently, construction on the JEC Tower has reached over 60th floor. The team is using powerful machines to pump concrete up to a height of 2,624 feet. However, since the tower will be more than 3,280 feet tall when finished, they are working on boosting this capacity. Reaching such heights safely needs very advanced equipment and careful planning to make sure the building stays strong and secure.
As per the tower’s website, “Located in the Northern part of Obhur, The Jeddah Tower stands tall amidst the majestic Jeddah Economic City, amassing a complete set of amenities ranging from Business facilities, offices, a grand hotel, commercial shops, residential spaces, parks and much more, with a vast shopping area. While the Jeddah Economic City is envisioned to overlook the Pearl of the Red Sea, the Jeddah Tower’s mega height is intended to overlook much more than the eye can see, at a height of over a kilometre, and sporting the world’s highest observation deck.”
The Jeddah Economic Company Tower will feature an observation deck called The Sky Terrace on the 157th floor. This will be one of the highest observation points ever built, similar to the Burj Khalifa’s observation areas, located on floors 124, 125 and 148. Meanwhile, the tower will have 157 floors and 59 elevators. Inside, there will be a luxury hotel, stylish homes and large office spaces.
Large projects like the JEC Tower often face delays, but the team is focused on reaching its goal and finishing the building by 2028.
