“Ye toh mere dada ji phente hai” – this is what the internet said when it came across a pair of H&M shorts that looked exactly like the ones grandfathers used to wear. Striped and light-coloured, these shorts instantly grabbed the attention of desis.

In an Instagram video, a man strolls into an H&M store and holds up a pair of striped shorts. He says, “Here’s what my grandfather used to wear everyday as undergarment and it is now being sold at H&M.”

He points to the price tag which is originally Rs 1,499 but is available for Rs 499 after a discount. The overlay text on the video says, “Dadaji called ‘He wants his chaddi back.’”

The caption adds another layer of humour, “Trend alert: H&M x Dadaji collab nobody saw coming. #Retro drip.”

‘Justice For Dadaji’: Comments Went Wild

The video went viral, racking up over a lakh views, and the comments section turned into a comedy hub.

One user commented, “Nana ji ka chadda (Grandfather’s underwear).”

Another couldn’t resist pointing out, “Bhai mandi me 80 ki mil jati hai (Brother, you could get it for 80 at the market).”

Many shared nostalgic bargains like “Meanwhile grandfather bought 4 for 100 rupees.” Some noticed the material difference and joked, “At least they used to wear cotton made. Nowadays the same design but the material is polyester.”

“Next week they will have dadas lungi,” a person humourously predicted while another added, “Thank God!!!!!!! My dadaji is not alive to see this price.”

More remarks kept coming in with remarks such as, “Dada ji wale me elastic nahi hota tha (The ones grandpa used to wear didn’t have any elastic),” “Justice for Dadaji,” and “That’s a kaccha.”

A viewer even complimented grandfathers’ style, saying, “Dadaji kaafi fashion forward (Grandfather was quite fashion forward).”

From Dadaji Shorts to Desi Chappals

This isn’t the first time designers have drawn inspiration from simple, everyday items. In June, Prada grabbed attention when Kolhapuri sandals, the traditional Indian footwear, appeared on its Spring/Summer 2026 menswear runway. The show took place at the Deposito of Fondazione Prada and was led by Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons.

As pictures and videos circulated online, social media users especially desis were thrilled. After all, these were the same Kolhapuri chappals seen on Indian streets which was reimagined on one of the world’s top fashion stages.
