Demand to increase auto fare also

A large number of public transport vehicles like autos, taxis and buses throughout the Mumbai Metropolitan Region use CNG for daily fuel. Sources say that after this increase in CNG rate, auto unions will also demand an increase in fare by two rupees.

Mumbai Rickshaw Men’s Union leader Thampi Kurin said, “We have first thought about the scale based on the cost of fuel, maintenance and others required for the government’s living index. After this increase in CNG price, we are considering the cost of living index in the metropolitan region. We can demand an increase in the auto-rickshaw fare by at least two rupees as per the government’s hike calculation formula for one kilometer in this area. It should increase by Rs 2.50.”

Speaking to Times of India, a senior MGL official said, “To meet the domestic gas shortage, MGL is purchasing natural gas at additional market price and the cost burden on gas has increased. This increase in CNG price By doing this the cost can be compensated.”
