CIA employee was leaking information related to Israeli attack on Iran, held guilty


US CIA Employee Plead Guilty: CIA employee Asif William Rahman pleaded guilty on Friday (January 17) to charges of knowingly retaining and sharing national defense information. Rahman has admitted to illegally downloading, printing and distributing classified content on several occasions in 2024.

Rahman was arrested by the FBI in Cambodia in November. He was later transferred to federal court in Guam. The leaked information included details of preparations for an Israeli airstrike on Iran in retaliation for the October 1 missile attack on Israel.

How did the leak happen?
The intelligence received from American satellite included two American intelligence documents dated October 15 and 16. These documents were originally limited to the Five Eyes intelligence-sharing alliance (Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States). However, these documents appeared on the pro-Iran Telegram channel Middle East Spectator.

The Middle East Spectator has denied any direct connection to this leak. “We believe this (leak) came from a whistleblower within the US State Department,” he said.

This leak has raised serious questions on the security measures of America and the Five Eyes alliance. Apart from this, leaking of this information in the tense situation between Iran and Israel is also worrying for regional security.
