Chris Woakes ruled out of fifth Test due to shoulder injury

England pacer Chris Woakes has been ruled out of the remainder of the fifth Test against India, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed on Friday.

In the 57th over of India’s innings, Woakes landed awkwardly on his shoulder as he dived to prevent a boundary.

The seam bowler immediately clutched his shoulder in pain and received on-field treatment before being escorted off by the medical staff, his arm supported in a sling.

Earlier, Woakes had played a crucial role with the ball, sending down 14 overs and dismissing opener K.L. Rahul. The 36-year-old has been a key part of England’s attack throughout the Anderson-Tendulkar series, having featured in all five Tests and taken 11 wickets so far.
