With the trade war between the US and China raging on, Chinese companies have reportedly switched to a new route to sell their products, offering branded items at significantly lower prices. Several videos of Chinese suppliers have surfaced online, showing them selling products from luxury brands like Louis Vuitton, Estée Lauder, Birkin, Lululemon, Fila, Under Armour and Chanel, among others. These products range from handbags to shoes, cosmetics, apparel and more.
In the video, the Chinese suppliers offer direct sales to customers at much lower prices; however, they do not include the brand logos. Emphasising the use of high-quality materials and skilled labour, the sellers claim that they receive a minimal profit margin, whereas the brands retain the majority of the profit when sold in the US.
In one of them, a Birkin supplier revealed that the production cost of a bag selling for $34,000 (Rs 29,23,320) is about $1,400 (Rs 1,20,372), further revealing the difference in prices. “More than 90 per cent of the price is for the logo, but if you do not care about the logo and want the same quality and same material, you can just buy from us,” he said.

The profit margin from people who are actually making bags is very low. Now, as the US and its European brothers are trying to refuse Chinese goods, you can just contact us and buy from us. You won’t believe the prices we give you.”

Many American TikTok users have shared videos of the Chinese suppliers, detailing the high-quality products that the luxury brands sell in comparison to the original manufacturing costs. The videos have sparked a heated debate online, leaving users divided. One wrote, “My FYP is suddenly filled with Chinese manufacturers trying to sell directly to Americans. The gag is that even with paying the import tariff and shipping, it’s still way cheaper than buying the same products through American corporations. We are not winning this trade war, lmao,” while another added, “We can buy sewing machines here. The difference is that we will automate. We can live without Temu and Shein. The quality will be better.”
“I don’t think anyone was ever under the impression that big brands aren’t making 70% margins or higher. You are paying for convenience and brand recognition. Providing a direct line will definitely be impactful; it all depends on whether they are able to market correctly,” another comment read.
China’s attempts at marketing their products are making headlines at a time when most imports from China to the US have been facing tariffs of 145 per cent. The Trump administration is also expected to announce tariffs on electronics.
