Cyber attack by China: After the earthquake in Myanmar, the Indian Air Force has started a relief mission called ‘Operation Brahma’ to help the people there. This mission wants to thwart some forces. It is believed that China may be behind it. According to the report of Diprint, the Indian Air Force has followed all the necessary rules of security. Nevertheless, when the Air Force aircraft were carrying relief material in Myanmar, they had to face GPS spoofing many times.
GPS spoofing is a kind of cyber attack, in which an attempt is made to take a plane or vehicle in the wrong direction by sending fake GPS signals. It is being suspected that this attack is being carried out by China so that the help given by India can be interrupted. This operation of India is being run to help the earthquake victims of Myanmar, but difficulties are also being created in it.
GPS spoofing is extremely dangerous
GPS spoofing can be very dangerous because through this, the navigation of an aircraft can be hacked and sent in the wrong direction. Due to this, the pilot is not able to get signals to land in the right direction during the flight. When the aircraft are in the air, they do not get the right information about the runway and many times they are unable to find the airport. Such problems were also done by Israel during the Gaza war and its impact was seen till the borders of India. In such situations pilots use old -time technology such as magnetic compass and other traditional equipment so that the aircraft can be safely landed.
Big disclosure in the report
According to a report by Diprint, Indian defense sources said that after the earthquake in Myanmar on March 29, when India started sending assistance there, many aircraft in Myanmar’s airspace faced the problem of GPS spoofing and intervention. Although it is not yet clear whether the cyber attack affected all six Indian Air Force aircraft sent to Myanmar, but according to sources, most of these aircraft have reported the problem of GPS spoofing.
Sources said that such problems came in four or five different flights. After facing the problem of GPS spoofing in the first aircraft, the rest of the aircraft pilots were informed about it so that they could be ready to deal with any difficulty while flying in Myanmar.
‘This action of enemies’
According to Diprint, when the question was asked whether the Air Force would investigate the matter, sources said that it is very difficult to investigate accidents in foreign aircraft. Apart from this, it is even more difficult to investigate the matter in view of the current situation of Myanmar. A source told Diprint that our enemy in this area would have carried out GPS spoofing.
Difference between GPS Spoofing and GPS Jaming
In GPS spoofing, wrong GPS signals are deliberately sent to change the location of the navigation device. This means that when the aircraft is flying over the airport, the pilot does not get the correct information and he does not know whether there is actually an airport under the aircraft. In spuofing, the wrong signals are deliberately sent by mimicking real data, which assure the pilot that he is in the right place, while they can be elsewhere. For example, the pilot can be told that there is an airport below, but there can actually be a forest, human settlement or sea. If the pilot follows this signal, the aircraft may crashed.
In GPS jamming, the real satellite signal is blocked or hidden, due to which the navigation system does not work. This is less dangerous than spufting because the signals are completely disappeared in it, while the spruching sends the pilot in the wrong direction, which poses more danger.
In Myanmar, when the first pilot of the Indian Air Force faced GPS spoofing, the rest of the pilots were immediately informed about it and started their backup system, called the Inspector Navigation System. This is the old technique, which helps to move the aircraft in the right direction even without satellite. Today’s aircraft have backup systems, but experts say that such incidents show the need to maintain more vigilance in military and human operations.
