Israel Hamas Ceasefire Deal: The Israeli government approved a ceasefire and hostage agreement in Gaza on Friday night (January 17). The debate lasted for 6 hours in this meeting chaired by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. According to Reuters report, a total of 24 ministers voted in favor of the ceasefire agreement, while 8 ministers opposed it. Under this agreement, the ceasefire is likely to come into effect from Sunday (January 18) and in the first phase, 33 Israeli hostages will be released.
Earlier on Friday, Israel’s security cabinet had recommended a ceasefire agreement. However, National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich opposed the agreement and threatened to leave the government. Prime Minister Netanyahu confirmed the agreement and said that Qatar and America mediated the agreement.

Prime Minister Netanyahu blamed Hamas for the delay in the agreement. “Hamas had opposed the deal, but the situation changed because of the bravery of our troops and our strong measures in the region,” he said.
Trump support
During the meeting, Netanyahu said that Donald Trump has supported Israel that if Hamas violates the agreement, Israel can go to war again. Trump has also assured Israel of lifting the ban on arms shipments, which was imposed by the Biden administration.

Under this agreement the ceasefire will come into effect from Sunday. The first phase will see the release of 33 Israeli hostages, after which the release of the remaining hostages will be discussed in the second phase. Under this agreement, Hamas has set a condition of permanent ceasefire for the release of the remaining hostages.
Ceasefire and hostage agreement an important step
The ceasefire and hostage agreement between Israel and Hamas is an important step, but there are many challenges in its implementation. Prime Minister Netanyahu has put pressure on Hamas to fulfill the terms of the agreement, while US support has given Israel a stronger position.
