Car modifications have long been a popular trend, with people constantly exploring unique ways to make their vehicles stand out. However, a recent trend in China might just be the most unusual yet. Some car lovers are transforming the front hoods of their cars into mini aquariums. By placing a clear plastic layer over the bonnet, sealing it securely and filling the space beneath with water and live fish, they’re creating moving displays that are both bizarre and fascinating. At first glance, the videos may seem AI-generated, but they’re very much real.
How Did The Trend Begin?
According to United Daily, the man behind this unusual car modification has been identified as Mr. Liu. He explained that the idea came to him spontaneously after he went fishing one day and forgot to bring a bucket. On the spot, he decided to pour water and the fish into the empty space under his car’s hood. He claimed it was just a one-time idea. Liu also shared that his car already had a colour-changing film on it, and there was still some unused space in the front.
Liu said he thought it would be fun to record a short video and share something out of the ordinary. He emphasised that he never drove the car with the fish inside and warned others not to imitate the stunt, admitting that it’s not safe. While the setup may look eye-catching, it has sparked criticism online. Many social media users have called it cruel, arguing that keeping live fish confined in a car, even for display, is inhumane.
How Did The Internet React?
Reacting to the post, a user wrote, “They are gasping for clean water. They’re bout to have boiled fish on a hot day.”
Another asked, “People do know that fish can’t live in enclosed water for long, right?”
“Actual animal abuse,” a comment read.
An individual stated, “Heartless.”
“That’s wild—only in China! Creative, but hope they don’t hit any bumps,” another comment read.
After Liu’s video started circulating online, it caught the attention of many. A car detailing centre in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, also decided to copy the idea. They placed live fish under a sealed plastic cover on the car’s hood, just like Liu did. While they may have done it for fun or to get attention, social media users are not happy with this.
Many are calling the act cruel and are asking the police to take strict action against the car owner. Many believe that using live animals for such stunts is wrong and should not be allowed.
