Job interviews can be stressful even under the best of circumstances. But when a candidate faces inappropriate advances from the recruiter, the experience can quickly turn into a nightmare. It’s crucial to remember that such behaviour during the hiring process is completely unacceptable and should never be tolerated. One such case recently came to light when a female job applicant sounded the alarm after a disturbing encounter with a recruiter. She took to Reddit to share a screenshot of their conversation, revealing the recruiter’s inappropriate and unusual demands.

Mentioning that she had applied for a good-paying job as a personal assistant in Noida, the woman stated how the recruiter started acting “extremely creepy,” which she found disheartening. “Am I in the wrong for feeling creeped out over this?” she captioned the post.

In the screenshot shared on the post, the woman maintained a professional tone, inquiring about job-related details. However, the recruiter veered off course by asking her to send a full picture of herself. Politely declining, the woman clarified that she would be happy to share her passport photo and other necessary documents once an offer letter was issued. Undeterred, the recruiter pushed further, requesting her Instagram profile under the pretext of needing to “see her personality” for the role.

“My Instagram profile is private. May I ask why is that relevant?” she replied, also asking the recruiter to hold a formal interview where she would like to answer the questions. Besides sharing her discomfort, the woman also revealed how the recruiter asked about her marital status, which she believes is not an industry norm. Since being shared, the post has caught a lot of attention, leaving social media users furious over such behaviour. Many asked the woman to share details about the company and the recruiter on LinkedIn to reach a larger audience, while others condemned the audacity of the recruiter.

One wrote, “Post on LinkedIn… tag the b**tard and the company. He’s probably done it before, and he’ll do it again,” while another added, “Share what you can here; at the least others can avoid it.”

“I think even if he blocked you, you may be able to report them! If you can, you should. God forbid someone falls for their trap!” a user continued. One of the users urged the job applicant not to take the job, sharing an unfortunate incident. “Don’t do it. I connected via LinkedIn as well for a job posting in Noida. I kept ignoring the red flags because I was desperate for the job (it seemed like my dream job). I ended up getting molested and having to run for my fucking life. Don’t do it. Block and move on,” the comment read.

A furious user commented, “That’s disgusting. A woman can’t even find a safe workplace here anymore.”

The woman received widespread support from fellow Reddit users, with many urging her to consider legal action. She went on to reveal the name of the company as VRN Digital Media, based in Noida. Additionally, she mentioned that the recruiter later blocked her on LinkedIn.
