UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson’s murder suspect Luigi Mangione has been gaining widespread attention for his courtroom fashion. During a recent hearing in a Manhattan court, the 26-year-old former Ivy League student wore a burgundy sweater, and completed his look with a white-collared shirt, light grey slacks, and orange shoes. And some people have been drooling over his fashion choices, with many going as far as calling him a “fashion icon”.
Shockingly, many who previously hailed him as a hero, celebrity, or even a crush began searching for the sweater and purchased it in droves. The sweater, available for sale on Nordstrom, is now completely out of stock.
Mangione was attending his arraignment hearing on December 23 when he became an unlikely fashion influencer. He faces 11 counts in New York, including first-degree murder in furtherance of terrorism, second-degree murder in furtherance of terrorism, and multiple weapons offenses.

People initially thought that Mangione was wearing a $1,000 Maison Margiela sweater. However, it was later confirmed that it was the “Washable Merino Crewneck Sweater” from Nordstrom, reported The Independent.
Reactions from fans flooded social media, with one commenting, “Serving looks everywhere.” Another remarked, “Why is he so photogenic?” with a third simply adding, “Very nice.”
“The ‘Washable Merino Crewneck Sweater’ that Luigi Mangione wore during his court hearing has been sold out,” reads the caption to the video shared on X (formerly known as Twitter).

In court, Mangione pleaded not guilty to all charges as his attorney, Karen Agnifilo, raised concerns about the fairness of the trial, pointing out the extensive security and the attendance of New York City Mayor Eric Adams.

“They are literally treating him like he is some sort of political fodder, like some sort of spectacle. He was on display for everyone to see in the biggest stage perp walk I’ve ever seen in my career, it was absolutely unnecessary. He’s been cooperative with law enforcement… There was no reason for the NYPD and everybody to have these big assault rifles,” Agnifilo argued before Judge Gregory Carro.
“It was perfectly choreographed, and what was the New York City Mayor doing at this press conference, your honor? That just made it utterly political,” she continued.
