Getting a DNA test done abroad has become quite common, and online test kits are now available, allowing people to order them and conduct their own tests to learn more about their ancestry.
In a similar vein, an American woman decided to get a DNA test done due to her frequent health issues. She provided a saliva sample, but when the report arrived, she uncovered a secret so shocking that it felt as if the ground slipped beneath her feet.
According to a report on The New York Post website, Victoria Hill, a resident of Connecticut, and mother of two, recently appeared on Britain’s ITV show ‘This Morning’. She shared that her recurring illnesses prompted her to get a DNA test through a service called ’23andMe’. One day, she received a message on her phone revealing that she had a sister. Initially, she was stunned by the news.
Fertility Fraud
It turned out to be a case of fertility fraud, but what was even more surprising was when her boyfriend revealed that he was, in fact, her half-brother. Only then did Victoria learn the full extent of the situation, which was tied to fertility fraud.
Fertility fraud refers to the undisclosed use of sperm, eggs, or embryos during fertility treatments. At first, Victoria couldn’t believe it, but then she recalled receiving several emails from a woman claiming to be her half-sister. The woman had asked whether Victoria’s mother had also visited the Yale Fertility Clinic.
The doctor was found guilty, and the woman then explained the entire situation. It was revealed that the doctor at the fertility clinic had donated his sperm without disclosure, resulting in Victoria having multiple half-siblings worldwide. She was devastated to discover that her boyfriend was also her brother. Now, she hopes to raise awareness about this issue by sharing her story.
