Manoj Kumar was ill for several days and was hospitalized. He breathed his last on Friday morning. Manoj Kumar was known for his patriotic films. He was famous as ‘Bharat Kumar’ of Bollywood.

Ashok Pandit paid tribute to Manoj Kumar
On the death of Indian actor and film director Manoj Kumar, filmmaker Ashok Pandit said, “… the great Dadasaheb Phalke Award winner, our inspiration and ‘Sher’ Manoj Kumar ji of the Indian film industry is no longer among us … It is a big loss for the industry and the whole industry will miss him …”

‘Bharat Kumar’ was said due to patriotic films
Born as Harikrishna Giri Goswami on July 24, 1937, Manoj Kumar was a veteran actor of Hindi cinema. He was known for acting and direction in patriotic theme films. These include “Shaheed” (1965), “Upkar” (1967), “East and West” (1970), and “Roti Cloth and House” (1974). It was also because of these films that he was also called ‘Bharat Kumar’.

Apart from his patriotic films, he also acted and directed in other notable films like “Hariyali and Rasta”, “Woh Kaun Thi”, “In the Himalayan lap”, “Do Badan”, “Patthar Ke Sanam”, “Neel Kamal” and “Kranti”. He was last seen in the 1995 film Maidan-e-Jung on the big screen.

Awards and honors
Manoj Kumar was awarded the Padma Shri in 1992 for his contribution to Indian cinema and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2015.
