‘Bharat Kumar’ was said due to patriotic films
Born as Harikrishna Giri Goswami on July 24, 1937, Manoj Kumar was a veteran actor of Hindi cinema. He was known for acting and direction in patriotic theme films. These include “Shaheed” (1965), “Upkar” (1967), “East and West” (1970), and “Roti Cloth and House” (1974). It was also because of these films that he was also called ‘Bharat Kumar’.
Apart from his patriotic films, he also acted and directed in other notable films like “Hariyali and Rasta”, “Woh Kaun Thi”, “In the Himalayan lap”, “Do Badan”, “Patthar Ke Sanam”, “Neel Kamal” and “Kranti”. He was last seen in the 1995 film Maidan-e-Jung on the big screen.

Manoj Kumar was awarded the Padma Shri in 1992 for his contribution to Indian cinema and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2015.
