Social media fame has become an all-consuming obsession, pushing people to extreme and reckless behaviour. In a shocking incident, a YouTuber from Bihar staged a stunt for viral attention, filming himself slapping a random train passenger. What he thought would earn him fame instead led to his arrest, proving that the pursuit of online clout can have real-world consequences.
The incident took place on a moving train at Bihar’s Anugraha Narayan Road railway station. The man was later arrested by the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
According to reports, the man, identified as Ritesh Kumar, had orchestrated the entire stunt to boost his social media following.
Kumar waited on the railway platform until the train was about to depart before approaching it and slapping an unsuspecting passenger. His friend filmed the entire act, intending to post it online.
The clip quickly went viral, sparking outrage. Shortly after, the RPF apprehended him and instructed him to issue a public apology.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the RPF wrote, “No compromise on passenger security!! A YouTuber who slapped a passenger on a moving train for social media fame has been tracked & arrested by RPF Dehri-on-Sone! Your safety matters to us-reckless acts will not be tolerated.”
In the apology video, Kumar admitted his mistake, stating that he wanted to increase his followers. “I am a YouTuber. I make and post videos on Instagram to increase my followers. I came to Anugraha Narayan Road railway station and, to boost my follower count, slapped a passenger on a moving train,” Kumar said. “This was my mistake, and I won’t repeat it. Please forgive me.”
