A tech professional from Bengaluru, who was fired from his position at the India headquarters of an American workforce management company, has made claims against his former manager. The employee said in a detailed LinkedIn post published on December 20 that the main reason he had difficulties during his brief time with the company was a toxic work environment characterised by micromanagement, an overwhelming workload, and undue scrutiny over small transgressions.

Despite having no prior expertise with SaaS (Software as a Service), the techie, who has worked at Amazon and Revolut, said he joined the company on September 9, 2024, with eagerness and a willingness to adapt. He stated in his interview that he was aware of this lack of experience and that he was eager to learn. He said, however, that the company did not offer him the guidance or training he needed to be successful.

The employee said he was not given the right direction and was expected to perform on par with more experienced coworkers. “I was new to the system, the payroll process, and Salesforce, but I was not given constructive guidance on these tools or processes,” he wrote on LinkedIn. He also mentioned that he was not instructed on how to properly log breaks, which made his problems worse because there were times when the company’s system tagged him offline after he was inactive for short periods.

Instead of providing helpful feedback or assistance to improve his work, the techie criticised his manager for concentrating too much on trivial matters, such as going over break periods by a minute. He expressed concerns about the workload as well, claiming that he was required to manage 35 to 40 cases each week, often with extra work added right before his shift finished. He also claimed that this led to a lot of overtime with little tolerance or understanding from his manager.

“When I raised concerns about the extended hours and sought guidance on managing my workload, I was met with dismissive responses like, ‘You have to solve your open cases anyhow, any way you prefer,’” he further expressed.

In less than four months, the Bengaluru techie’s job was terminated, a decision he blamed on the difficulties he had there. Despite his readiness to change and grow, he bemoaned the absence of encouragement and helpful guidance.

Currently, online debates concerning workplace culture have been triggered by the accusations, especially in Indian management teams of international corporations.
