During the Zoom interview, the wife openly claimed that her previous marriage had ended and that she was now married to someone else now.
The husband created a fake job interview scenario on Zoom to catch his wife’s lies.
In a case that reads more like a psychological thriller than a courtroom drama, a software engineer from Bengaluru has not only exposed his wife’s extramarital affairs but also walked away with a court ruling in his favour, without paying the alimony she demanded.
What began as a seemingly ordinary marriage between two tech professionals in 2018 ended in an extraordinary tale of deceit, digital detective work, and courtroom revelations. The couple, originally from Bantwal in Karnataka’s Dakshina Kannada district, had settled in Bengaluru’s KR Puram area after tying the knot.
According to case details, the husband began noticing troubling behaviour in his wife just months after their marriage. Whispered late-night phone calls, unexplained financial transactions, and a recurring reference to an old relationship raised red flags. What disturbed him most were comparisons his wife would make, allegedly telling him that her ex-boyfriend was “better” than him.
His initial doubts soon hardened into conviction. Believing his wife had rekindled a relationship with her former partner, and possibly someone else, the husband decided to take matters into his own hands. What he did next would ultimately change the course of the legal battle.
In a bold and unconventional move, the husband created a fake job interview scenario on Zoom. Disguised as a recruiter, he interviewed his own wife under a pseudonym. During the conversation, she openly claimed that her previous marriage had ended and that she was now married to someone else, unaware that the man on the other end of the video call was her legal husband.
The revelations didn’t stop there. Using the Right to Information (RTI) Act, the husband obtained official documents, including a PAN card, travel records, and an affidavit related to a name change. These confirmed what he feared most: his wife had secretly married another man in March 2023 while still being legally married to him.
The wife did not take the allegations lying down. She countered with accusations of her own, alleging domestic violence, forced abortion, and dowry harassment. According to her claims, she was pressured to bring Rs 10 lakh in cash and 30 sovereigns of gold. However, her claims would fail to hold up under judicial scrutiny.
After nearly four years of legal sparring, the family court delivered its verdict on April 23, 2025. In a rare but decisive judgment, the court granted the husband a divorce, citing the wife’s bigamy and deceit. Her claim for Rs 3 crore in alimony and Rs 60,000 monthly maintenance was outright rejected. Instead, the court awarded the husband Rs 30,000 as reimbursement for legal expenses. However, he was ordered to return his wife’s jewellery.
