An Instagram account, “Bangalore Metro Clicks” (@metro_chicks), has sparked outrage for discreetly filming women passengers on Namma Bengaluru Metro trains and uploading the videos online without consent.
The social media account, which has 5,605 followers, and its associated Telegram channel (1,188 subscribers), feature 13 videos, some with alarming captions like “finding beautiful girls on Namma Metro” and clips showing women being covertly followed and recorded. Comments on the videos were disabled.
The issue gained traction after a user on X brought the account to the attention of Bengaluru Police, demanding action against the “pervert.”
This call was amplified by numerous other users, who tagged authorities, citizen groups, and influencers. X user That Nair Guy (@surajv369) called it “very creepy and dangerous for all women traveller’s,” urging amplification for swift punishment.
Soon, other users joined in, tagging authorities, citizen groups, and influencers so that the message is amplified.
Some X users, like Adarsh Kharvi (@Adarshkharvi1) and Abhay Chaturvedi (@AbhayLearner) also tagged Bengaluru Police, stating, “This bastard should immediately be put behind bars.”
Many users also expressed shock at the account’s substantial follower count.
In response to the growing public outcry, BL Yashavanth Chavan, Chief Public Relations Officer of Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), told Moneycontrol that BMRCL is aware of the account and will promptly file a police complaint against the user.
A cyber complaint will also be lodged to have the account removed. Chavan emphasised, “We will not tolerate anything that compromises the safety of our passengers.”
