While online deliveries have become commonplace, a recent incident in Bengaluru demonstrates that there’s always room for surprises. We all have experienced delivery agents asking to tip them or requesting a glass of water, but a Bengaluru resident recently shared an unusual experience with a delivery agent. The request? A simple onion and the reason behind it will leave you scratching your head. Yes, you read that correctly. The customer took to social media to share the bizarre interaction. In the post shared on Reddit, the user shared about his conversation with the delivery agent who was delivering his grocery order.
“So this is what happened. In the evening, having discussed with my wife what groceries we need, I order them. The delivery guy came to the door on expected time,” the user wrote.
After receiving the order, the user thanked the delivery agent. It was at this moment that the person made an unusual request. He said, “Sir, ek pyaaz mil sakta hai kya?”
Puzzled by the request, he queried why he needed an onion. To which the delivery man replied, “Aise hi, khaane ke liye.”
The said man handed him the onion and added a tweak of humour, saying if the delivery guy wanted to do some kind of ‘Tantra mantra (Black Magic).’
“Me: okay…After getting a pyaaj, I asked … koi tantra mantra to nahi karoge na bhaiya?? He: nahi sir (with an innocent smile) … … After he left taking the onion, me and my wife were discussing if he genuinely needed to eat it or was going to do a tantra mantra…My wife said maybe the onion is so expensive here he might be asking for onion from everywhere he delivers so he has enough to make food using it,” the user added.
Soon after the post was shared on social media, it quickly went viral, prompting tonnes of reactions from users. Reddit users chimed into the comments section to share their views. A majority of users started guessing the delivery agent’s reason for asking for a single onion, while others remarked that they might not be able to buy the vegetable because of the rising prices. However, a few expressed their views about the black magic thing and said that they could have given money to the delivery agent instead to stay clear of their doubts.
“If this was around lunchtime, he was probably wanting the onion to eat along with whatever vegetable and roti he had. Should’ve asked him why and given him pickle too,” read a comment.
An account remarked, “If you are scared of tantra mantra you could have just given him a hundred rupees as a tip because obviously, the guy is hungry, and that way you could be free in your mind.”
“Could he be the same guy who asked for two tomatoes yesterday from me while delivering? Now this is getting interesting. Is anyone out there who was asked for potatoes? I’m guessing he’s up to tomato-potato mesh,” joked a user.
Another user wrote, “I am amazed to see the delivery guy asked onion in Hindi and that too in Bangalore, sounds suspicious.”
“Whatever his intentions were, OP, I respect you for giving him one onion,” said an individual.
A Reddit user commented, “Who even thinks of black magic when someone asks for one onion? Is that a thing now? I would think it strange for sure but never would have thought in the line of tantra mantra.”
Till now, the post has received more than 1,100 upvotes, and the numbers are still increasing.
