In the post, the user shared that they began scanning the payment QR, forgetting that they had already paid when the auto stopped at the CNG pump to refuel.

The Redditor tried to tip the driver but he refused.

If you lived in a city without a personal conveyance, you would understand the frustration of surge pricing of cabs and autos. It’s not uncommon for cab and auto drivers to ask for more than the actual fare. However, this recent incident from Bengaluru, shared by a Reddit user, shows that not every cab or auto driver on the road is out there to charge extra bucks from passengers. While the recent flood of videos on social media featuring arrogant auto drivers from Bengaluru may deceive people into believing that all drivers behave this way, it’s important to remember that these instances don’t represent the entire community.

Sharing a heartwarming story, a Reddit user revealed how an auto driver stopped him from making payments at the end of the ride, reminding him that he had already paid.

In the post, the user shared that they began scanning the payment QR, forgetting that they had already paid when the auto stopped at the CNG pump to refuel. The driver, noticing this immediately stopped the user.

“So on the ride, he stopped at a CNG pump to fuel up equivalent to the fare and asked me to pay for it. I didn’t mind, wasn’t the first time this happened anyways so I did. Once I got home, I mindlessly started scanning his payment QR when he asked me to stop, and reminded me that I already did,” the user wrote.

The person behind the post added that this was not a big incident but sharing it was important amidst the negativity. “I know it isn’t much, I wouldn’t even have ever realised that I paid him twice. But I thought I should share this here, since it could be a fresh change of pace from all the other incidents we read about,” the Reddit user wrote in the post.

Take a look at the post here:

In reaction to the incident, people praised the driver’s honesty, while others shared their own similar experiences.

One user commented, “There are genuinely nice auto drivers in Bengaluru too, let’s not forget that. I’ve had bad experiences only around 1/20 times. I’ve hired taxis/autos, most of them are just doing their jobs and don’t want to mess around. The bad apples are isolated to a few, let’s not judge all of them basis this. *Disclaimer: I’m neither an auto driver nor a union leader.”

“Rare cases!” another simply wrote.

A person asked, “Please tell me you tipped him?” To which the person who shared the experience explained that they had tried but the driver had politely refused any extra money.

Meanwhile, another Redditor shared their own touching experience, writing, “One day I forgot my phone in auto and unfortunately phone was in silent mode and I forgot it. Called many times and no one picked up, finally tried ringing via Find My Phone app and the driver picked up the call and assured me to return the phone on next day. But I was sceptical, then the next day the driver anna came to my home to return the phone and he denied to take money even for petrol charges. After lot of hesitance, he agreed to take the money. Till date, I have respect for that person.”
