One such remarkable tale comes from Bengaluru, India’s tech hub, where a middle-aged man is juggling two vastly different roles—working as an auto-rickshaw driver while also pursuing his passion as a professional table tennis (TT) coach. The inspiring story was shared on LinkedIn by Gayatri Gopakumar, who posted a picture of the TT coach, Gurumurthy N, highlighting his extraordinary dedication. She aptly captioned the post: “Wearing Multiple Caps with Excellence!”
In the caption, Gayatri detailed her encounter with Gurumurthy N on Wednesday morning, adding that his professionalism, patience, and respect caught her attention the most. She also revealed that Gurumurthy previously worked as a full-time coach for Karnataka’s state team until the COVID-19 pandemic hit his job, forcing him to take up the role of an auto-rickshaw driver. “This chance meeting reminded me that we can wear multiple caps with excellence! Mr. Gurumurthy’s story is a testament to the fact that our professions don’t define us, and we can pursue our passions with dedication and hard work,” she continued.
Gayatri shared the mobile number of the TT coach-cum-driver, urging others to contact the latter for coaching services. She also shared a few pictures from inside Gurumurthy’s auto-rickshaw, showing him in the driver’s seat while a poster in front of the passenger’s seat drew the most attention. “I am a professional TT coach. Please share my contact number with anyone who wants to get trained in TT. Individuals, clubs, apartment clubhouses, schools. Thank you,” the poster read.
