HTS Takes Command on Syria: Syria’s future depends on instability after the sudden fall of President Bashar al-Assad’s regime. The Assad regime, once considered invincible, has been demolished by Syrian rebels under the leadership of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) with powerful attacks. Hayar Tahrir al-Sham was formerly known as al-Nusra, which had direct ties to al-Qaeda.

Bashar al-Assad took over the rule of Syria in 2000 after nearly three decades of strong rule by his father Hafez al-Assad. At the beginning of Bashar al-Assad’s rule, people had expectations that Bashar would bring reform, change and openness to Syria. However, Bashar maintained his father’s repressive regime structure and his harsh policies and rules. So that these hopes of the people were soon shattered.

The dark stain of the 2011 protests on Bashar’s legacy

The response of ousted former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to the 2011 protests will leave a dark mark on his legacy. Which later turned into a bloody civil war. More than 5 lakh people were killed in these protests, about 60 lakh people became refugees and countless people were displaced.

Russia-Iran were busy in war, could not help Assad

At present Russia and Iran are busy in their respective conflicts. Where Russia is fighting a war with Ukraine. At the same time, Iran is facing its regional challenges. This is the reason why both the countries could not provide significant support to Assad in this very difficult time. Taking advantage of this situation, the rebels captured major cities of Syria like Aleppo, Hama and Homs in a few days and then started moving towards Damascus.

Mohammad Al-Jalali entrusted with the responsibility of looking after Syria

Rebel group leader Abu Mohammed al-Golani has announced the overthrow of the Assad regime and the formation of a transitional government. Syrian Prime Minister Mohammed al-Jalali has been appointed caretaker to oversee state institutions. At the same time, in a statement, Al-Jalali has said that he will cooperate with any leadership elected by the Syrian people.
