Banks in most parts of India will remain open, on Saturday, May 3, according to the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) holiday calendar. It is the first Saturday of the month, and hence the banks will remain operational.
But customers should be aware of the regional holidays in May. This is because banks in various states will remain closed for several regional, national, and religious holidays.
In addition to all Sundays, banks in India usually remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. Moreover, regional closures are noted per festivals and events that are unique to each state. It is recommended that customers monitor local schedules and adjust their branch visits accordingly.
Bank Holiday In May 2025
According to its state-by-state official holiday calendar for the fiscal year 2025–2026, the Reserve Bank of India has set aside six bank holidays for May 2025.
The second and fourth Saturdays of May 2025, as well as Sundays, will see bank closures in addition to the six holidays.

May 1 (Thursday) – Labour Day / Maharashtra Day: Banks will remain closed in Bengaluru, Belapur, Guwahati, Chennai, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Imphal, Nagpur, Panaji, Patna, and Thiruvananthapuram.
May 9 (Friday) – Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti: Banks in Kolkata will be closed.
May 12 (Monday) – Buddha Purnima: Banks will be closed in Aizawl, Agartala, Bhopal, Belapur, Dehradun, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Itanagar, Yammu, Kanpur, Nagpur, Nagpur, Nagpur, Nagpur, Raira Ranchi, Shimla, and Srinagar.
May 16 (Friday) – State Day: Gangtok observes a bank holiday.
May 26 (Monday) – Birthday of Kazi Nazrul Islam: The banks in Agartala will be closed.
May 29 (Thursday) – Maharana Pratap Jayanti: There will be a bank holiday in Shimla.
Additionally, the second and fourth Saturdays (May 10 and 24) as well as all Sundays (May 4, 11, 18, and 25) are also off for banks.
The majority of online banking services remain fully functional on holidays, even while physical branches are closed.
Consumers can use ATMs, smartphone apps, and internet banking to complete transactions.
Online services include credit card payments, standing instruction settings, NEFT/RTGS fund transfers, and account administration activities.
