Auto and Taxi Fare: The common people are going to get a big shock on the day the budget is presented on 1 February 2025 because transportation costs will increase from this day. Actually, the basic fare of auto rickshaw and black-yellow taxi is going to increase by three rupees. Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority (MMRTA) has approved this. The new rates will be applicable from 1 February 2025. Earlier, the fare was increased in October 2022.
Why was the fare increased?
Speaking to Moneycontrol, a transport department official said that the fares are being increased due to the increasing competition between Navi Mumbai Transport Service and BEST. The minimum fare for their AC buses is Rs 10 and Rs 6 respectively. Auto and taxi drivers were having to bear the brunt of this.
They were incurring losses due to low fares for AC buses. Apart from this, this increase has also been made due to increasing price of fuel, maintenance and operational costs. It is important to note here that the new rates will be applicable only on those vehicles whose meters will be calibrated as per the new rates.
MMRTA has said that new and shared auto and taxi stands are to be constructed at five stations of the first phase of Metro Line 3 (Aarey to Bandra Kurla) and on many busy routes like Vasai, Thane, Kalyan. Due to this, connectivity will improve and passengers will get better service. However, it will also be heavy on their pockets.
How much will the fare increase?
auto rickshaw- Earlier one had to pay Rs 23 for 1.5 kilometres, now Rs 26 will have to be paid.
