A total of 10 players from this 15-member squad were there in New Zealand in 2022 when the Aussies won an unprecedented seventh World Cup title and every one of these stars is going to be keen to add another trophy to their already bulging mantelpiece.

STRENGTH
For long the golden standard in the women’s game, Australia’s muscle is its depth in all departments.Players like Ellyse Perry, Beth Mooney and Alyssa Healy are in good nick. The side has seamlessly blooded youngsters in with Phoebe Litchfield and Georgia Voll quickly making themselves at home in this perfectionist setup. The side also has nine solid bowling options which gives its arsenal an added bite.
WEAKNESS
Despite pushing the peripheries of possibility constantly in the women’s game, Australia is susceptible to some human problems. The side does tend to get a bit passive if the the opponent waterboards them early on, as evidenced by India’s T20-esque chase at the Arun Jaitley Stadium a few days ago. Resorting to matchups isn’t a crime, but those plans not working leaves the side visibly jolted for a while. It offers the smallest of windows to capitalise on, but it’s an opportunity nevertheless.

OPPORTUNITY
One of the most experienced squads in the tournament with at least 10 players who also featured in its successful 2022 campaign, the side is poised to go all the way again. That said, its youngsters – Annabel Sutherland, Litchfield, Voll, Kim Garth – are capable of handling high pressure workloads as adeptly and will prove to be the difference.
THREAT
Healy has always insisted that you can’t defend a World Cup. You have to go and win it all over again. The record-breaking third ODI against India has shown that the Aussies – as Goliathesque as they maybe – are not immune to collapses. Without the tactical resilience of Meg Lanning, the Aussies do come off as reactive for longer than they’d like. The battle has to be won in strategy before it can be in execution against the top-ranked side in the format.
PREDICTION
Easily the most dominant side in ODIs in this cycle, Australia is an automatic knockouts candidate. After the disappointment in the T20 World Cup in the UAE last year, the Aussies will come baying for blood as they hunt for their eighth World crown.
