At a time when Bengaluru continues to reel under incessant rains, bringing several areas and roads under knee-deep water, it has once again drawn attention to the city’s failing infrastructure and the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) inadequacy to maintain the city roads. Taking a dig at the flooded roads along with the never-ending Kannada row in Bengaluru, start-up investor Ritesh Banglani took a dig at the matter only to find himself in the middle of backlash.
Banglani took to the X platform to share a mocking social media post and wrote, “I’m in a traffic jam in the middle of a frigging river. But hey, at least the signboards are in Kannada.” Along with it, he shared a picture from inside the car, showing him stuck in the middle of a flooded road in Bengaluru.
However, his humour did not go well with a lot of users, who called him out for dragging the Kannada row in the city’s state of affairs. A user wrote, “Signboards in Hindi will stop the water!! What brilliant logic!!”

A user asked Banglani to sort his priorities and added, “Instead of protesting for the poor infra, some people here were protesting for the language.”
Priorities bro, priorities.

A section of social media users even went on to ask Banglani to leave Bengaluru and return to his hometown. One wrote, “Your hometown should create some Job so that you can go and cry there. We Pity for you as you have to work and develop Bengaluru instead of your great city.”

In response to the intense backlash and criticism, Banglani in an additional tweet, came out with a strong defense and wrote, “I’m as Bangalorean as you, and have as much right to the city as you do, including the right to criticise the administration. I can have a house here, raise my family, run a business, vote in elections but I guess I can never become a local.”
Ok muting this as the trolls have taken over. An FAQ for them before i go: 1. Don’t dunk on Kannada you northie scum
I’m not dunking on Kannada, only on our government’s priorities (signboards vs drains)
2. You are the traffic/the infra is bad because of you (again) northie…

Meanwhile, Bengaluru is under an orange alert, and heavy rains and thunderstorms are expected to continue in parts of the city.
