A woman from Bengaluru recently posted about her “crazy” experience on Reddit. This “something crazy” was a stranger assisting her at a time when she felt helpless, since her phone had turned off, leaving her absolutely confused and scared. The incident at Indiranagar serves as a reminder of the city’s warmth.

The user started her post by stating that she had just moved to Bengaluru for an internship and a few days back, she had experienced an unexpected event. She continued by telling the story of how she was lost and confused when her phone died in the middle of the road.

“My friend and I went to Truffles in Indiranagar for dinner. On the way back, we took Yulu bikes. However, my Yulu only had 13-15 km of range left, and my phone has this issue where it switches off at 30-40% battery,” the woman on Reddit wrote.

“Around 10:30 PM, my phone switched off in the middle of the road, and I didn’t know the way to go. At a red light, there was an uncle next to me on his scooter. I asked him for directions to the HSR Layout. He was really friendly and told me the way. When I explained my problem, he took out a charging cable and tried to charge my phone from his scooter,” she further added in her post.

When the charger failed after multiple tries, the stranger kindly gave his adapter. “The signal turned green, so I moved to the side, and he came with me. He tried again, but it didn’t work. Then he gave me his adapter and said, “Take this beta and charge your phone somewhere. I’ll collect it from your office tomorrow,” the post read.

The woman then walked to a dosa vendor nearby and enquired if she could get her phone charged. The store owner recognised her situation and gave her permission to charge just enough to get back to her paying guest accommodations safely. “I charged my phone a little, found my way back to my PG, and ended the Yulu ride,” the woman wrote in her lengthy post.

Towards the end of her post, the woman stressed how, even though she was new to Bengaluru, she was already feeling the warmth of the city and thanked the stranger (uncle) and the owner of the dosa store for their goodwill.

Many people found resonance in the post, which led to similar stories of giving. A user wrote, “Happy for you. Repeat this kindness when you get the chance. Let’s make this behaviour so common that it doesn’t appear to be crazy anymore.”

Another user said, “I saw on the internet about discrimination against Hindi-speaking people, but so far, I’ve encountered only nice people. Thanks, Bangalore, and thanks to the driver.”

“This is really heartwarming to hear,” a user aptly remarked.
