
In fact, during a conversation with Simi Garewal in her talk show, AR Rahman had revealed that his mother had played an important role in choosing his life partner.

Rehman had told that he did not have time and energy to search for his bride. Rehman had said, “To be honest, I did not have time to go and find a bride. I was doing all these films and Rangeela in Bombay, so I was so busy with that. But, I knew it was the right time for me to get married. I was 27 and I told my mother. I said, ‘Find me a bride.’

Rehman had asked his mother to find a bride for him and also said that he had set three conditions. Rehman had said that he wanted his bride to be beautiful, educated and also kind. Rehman’s mother saw these three qualities in Saira.

Rehman had told in another interview with Rahmaniac.com that his mother and sister had introduced him to Saira Banu in a Sufi temple in Chennai.

Rahman had further said, “Saira and I were married on March 12, 1995 in Chennai in the same building where I had opened AM Studio in 2006.” On my wedding day I had a constant smile on my face and at the end of those three hours, I remember feeling pain in every muscle of my face.

The couple raised three children together, with their eldest daughter Khatija Rehman getting married in 2022. Rehman also shared a family picture from the function.

Let us tell you that AR Rahman’s wife Saira Banu is from Kutch, Gujarat. His father was a pilot in Saudi Airlines and Indian Airlines.

You will be surprised to know that AR Rahman’s mother had earlier talked about her son’s relationship with Saira’s younger sister Mehr. However, later he liked Saira’s nature very much and he chose Saira for AR Rahman.
