Apprenticeship compulsory in graduation course, Indian knowledge system (IKS) will also be included


The University Grants Commission (UGC) has made an necessary change in higher education and made the apprenticeship compulsory for the undergraduate (UG) students. Also, it has been decided to include Indian Knowledge System (IKS) in graduate and post graduate (PG) courses. The main objective of these changes is to prepare students according to the industry and promote the Indian knowledge tradition.

Under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, UGC has made the apprenticeship mandatory in undergraduate courses. This process will be mandatory in the last semester. Students will have to do at least three months apprenticeship to get a total of 10 credit scores. UG-PG will have Indian Knowledge System (IKS) mandatory

UGC has decided to make it mandatory in undergraduate and postgraduate courses to promote the Indian Knowledge System (IKS). Students will have to earn 5% credits from the total course credit, while 50% credit will be obtained from the main subjects. Under this, students will be made aware of Vedas, Purana, Yoga, Ayurveda, Astrology and traditional Indian knowledge system. The purpose of this initiative is to connect students with Indian culture and scientific heritage, so that they can strengthen their cultural roots along with modern technology.
