Gurcharan Singh Banwait: For the past few days, the Canadian media and political groups have been continuously glorifying a Canadian citizen named Gurcharan Singh Banwait. Gurcharan is being described as a social worker and he is being praised a lot. When ABP News investigated this and searched the records of this person, it came to light that he is a Khalistan supporter under the guise of social service.
The matter is such that on January 20, it was reported in the Canadian Government News Channel (CBC) that Canadian citizen Gurcharan Singh Banwait, who arrived in India, was detained at the airport for 36 hours and then sent back to Canada. In this news, this Canadian government channel had also claimed that Gurcharan Singh Banwait is a social worker and keeping him in custody is part of India’s policy of blacklisting Canadian Sikhs. After this, the political groups there also started targeting India.
Now ABP’s investigation has revealed that Gurcharan Singh is not only a Khalistan supporter but also a terrorist. He has even been accused of trying to blow up an Air India plane with a bomb.
Gurcharan has been active for 40 years
In a report of the American newspaper New York Times dated May 31, 1986, it was quoted by the Associate Press that Canadian security agencies have arrested 5 people on charges of trying to bomb an Air India plane in New York. The name of then 38 year old Gurcharan Singh Banwait was also included in this. The New York Times had also written in its report that these five accused may be related to the Khalistani terrorist organization Babbar Khalsa.
A case was filed against these 5 accused including Gurcharan Singh Banwait in the Canadian court but they had to be released due to lack of evidence. After his name surfaced in the attempt to bomb Air India, Gurcharan Singh Banwait remained underground for many years and did not come to India, but after 2010, when he felt that India’s investigative agencies had lost sight of him, he started working as an NGO. After making it, he started traveling to India.
‘Bihar has become Khalistan’
Apart from being a supporter of Khalistani, evidence has been found of Gurcharan Singh Banwait propagating Khalistan in India also. On January 4, 2017, on the occasion of the 350th birth anniversary of Sikh Guru Guru Gobind Singh, Gurcharan Singh Banwait came to Patna, the capital of Bihar. Here he did Facebook Live and titled it ‘Bihar Ban Gaya Khalistan’. This video is still present on the Facebook account of Gurcharan Singh Banwait.
Even in the year 2016, Gurcharan Singh Banwait, while sharing a post on Khalistan Referendum from his Facebook account, had written, ‘Khalistan Zindabad (Kindabad)’. However, he later deleted this post.
Gurcharan Singh Banwait, along with sharing the ideology of Khalistan on social media, has also been writing in support of Pakistan and against India. On March 1, 2019, Gurcharan Singh Banwait, while sharing the video of Wing Commander Abhinandan on Facebook, had written ‘Shame on you, Indians.’
There are many pictures of Gurcharan Singh Banwait going to Pakistan. He has also been welcomed there. In one picture, some Pakistani police officers are seen posing for pictures with him.
The question is also
The way Gurcharan Singh Banwait is accused of blowing up the plane and he keeps writing in support of Khalistan on social media, Indian agencies have solid evidence against him. The surprising thing is that despite anti-India efforts, how did he keep coming to India without any hindrance. Gurcharan Singh Banwait came to India several times from 2010 to 2024 and even went to India’s famous comedy show in the year 2020. Not only this, Gurcharan Singh Banwait also has an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card issued by the Government of India. In such a situation, the question arises that how did the Indian intelligence agencies not pay attention to Gurcharan Singh Banwait for so many years?
