India may have a tension situation with the Mohammad Yunus government of Bangladesh, but the Foreign Minister of Iran has praised India fiercely. Iran’s reaction has come on the ongoing conversation between the US and India about the Chabahar port. Iran’s Foreign Minister Syed Abbas Araghchi has said that we have confidence in Delhi. Araghchi said this during the Indian Ocean Conference in Muscat in a conversation with Siddhant Sibal.
Describing India as his friend, Iran’s Foreign Minister said that India is talking to the Trump administration of America regarding exemption at Chabahar port. We have a 10 -year agreement with India regarding the port. Iran is trusting India. We have left to friends to decide.
Deal was done in the month of May 2024
Let us know that in May 2024, India signed a 10-year contract with Iran for the development and operation of Shahid Behisti Terminal at the Chabahar port located in the southeastern coast of Iran.
Under the agreement, government -owned IPGL will invest around $ 120 million, while funding will be an additional $ 250 million, which will cost the contract to $ 370 million.
The new agreement replaced the earlier agreement signed in 2016, allowing India to operate the martyr Behishti Terminal in the Chabahar port, which was to be renewed every year.
India is developing a terminal at Chabahar port to deliver goods to countries like Iran, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The new agreement with Iran will open a trade route between South Asia and Central Asia through Iran, bypassing the Karachi and Gwadar port in Pakistan.
