Remember that AI-generated image depicting tent camps for displaced Palestinians and a slogan that reads ‘All Eyes on Rafah’? A similar wave has now swept social media again, but this time it is ‘All Eyes on Pahalgam’.
Images ranging from the Rafah poster (with just replacing Rafah with Pahalgam) to Navy officer Vinay narwal’s wife sitting helpless beside him, are being widely shared on social media.
What Was ‘All Eyes On Rafah’ Poster About?
The AI-generated ‘All Eyes on Rafah’ image had created a storm on social media last year, with the post being shared more than 47 million times by Instagram users. This included celebrities like Dua Lipa, Lewis Hamilton and Gigi and Bella Hadid.
The slogan and the picture went viral after an Israeli air strike. The strikes resulted in a fire at a camp for displaced Palestinians in the southern Gaza city of Rafah in May 2024.
At least 45 people were killed and hundreds more injured in the incident, according to the Hamas-controlled health ministry. Israel stated that it had aimed at two Hamas commanders and suggested that the fatalities might have been caused by a secondary explosion.
Who Gave The Slogan ‘All Eyes On Rafah’? The poster came after people posted clips of Richard Peeperkorn, a representative of the World Health Organization in the occupied Palestinian territories.
In February 2024, before the killing on 45 people, Peeperkorn told journalists that “All eyes are on Rafah”, warning against Israeli forces attacking the city.
Since then, officials and activists began echoing Peeperkorn’s phrase to voice their concerns and opposition to Israel’s military action in Rafah.
But Why Netizens Chose ‘All Eyes On Rafah’ Image For Pahalgam Attack?
According to some netizens, they want the world to support India in eliminating the terrorists, which they say are mostly “harboured by Pakistan”. Netizens want Pahalgam terror attack to have the same effect as the Palestine issue, when world leaders and celebrities globally condemned the strikes.
The incident of Pahalgam has embarrassed humanity. This time death saw only a religion. Such a cruel attack on the innocents showed the disgusting appearance of the terrorists, but this picture has made us cry. I believe that the jihadi terrorist will get a suitable reply.#AlleyesonPahalGam pic.twitter.com/LNkSoWYsXN— SUSHMITA MISHRA✨ (@iam_sush25) April 22, 2025
Why Are Netizens Angry With Celebrities Over Pahalgam Terror Attack?
Even as several actors — including Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Vivek Oberoi and Sanjay Dutt — condemned that the terrorist attack that killed at least 26 people in the Kashmir valley, many netizens feel that more celebrities were vocal when the Palestine issue happened.
Some having been attacking South Indian actors as well for promoting Pakistani celebrities.
There is already a massive outrage over Pakistani actor Fawad Khan’s comeback Hindi film ‘Abir gulaal‘. Following the Pahalgam terror attack, political tensions intensified, leading film governing bodies to attempt to halt the movie’s release in India.
