Alkaline water is the newest health fad, with many health experts and influencers promoting its advantages.
Does Alkaline Water Have Health Benefits?
Alkaline water is quickly gaining popularity as the latest health beverage, and supporters are praising its amazing properties to heal, repair, revitalise, hydrate, beautify, aid in weight loss, and clear complexions. But anything that seems too wonderful to be true is generally not! A video about a possible scam alert on alkaline water is currently making the rounds on social media.
In the video, a woman claims, “There is a big scam coming up that is going to enter India soon.” The clip was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by a user stating that it is a ‘This one is a must-watch’ video.
“There is a big scam coming up that is going to enter India soon. And why am I saying this? It is coming to India because it has become increasingly popular in the West. And whatever gets popular in the West becomes viral in India, as we believe anything and everything,” the woman in the video states.
“What am I talking about here! I’m talking about Alkaline water. So, what is Alkaline water? Alkaline means anything having a pH close to 7. Anything below 7 is acidic, and anything above 7 is basic. Also, anything in between we call neutral,” the video further states.
Further explaining more about the scam, the woman explains that “Now there is a trend in the West where everyone is eating and drinking Alkaline. That’s how Alkaline water is being manufactured. And what is the logic behind this? Our blood has a pH of 7.4. So, if we eat or drink anything close to 7, it is healthy for our body.”
Then she disagrees with the statement, saying, “No, it is absolutely rubbish! Please don’t fall for anything like this. If you ever come across Alkaline water, don’t buy coz it is very expensive.”
In addition, the woman in the video explained the whole process with an example: “Whatever you eat or drink first goes to the stomach. And in our stomach, we have a pH that is acidic, about 1 to 1.5 pH. So, remember whatever you eat or drink, either be it acidic, basic, or neutral, will enter our stomach and turn acidic, after which, when it enters the intestine, it turns into alkaline.”
“It’s the biggest scam, and it is sure to come to India. Don’t waste your money. It will be very sad and upsetting to see people getting scammed with this new thing,” the woman in the clip ended the video saying.

Know More About Alkaline Water?
Alkaline water, also known as alkaline ionized water, or AKW for short, is water with a pH that is marginally higher than ordinary drinking water. With a range of 0–14—0 being severely acidic, 14 being extremely alkaline, and 7 being neutral—pH is used to quantify how acidic or alkaline water is. The majority of drinking water has a pH between 6.5 and 8.5, and the acids and alkalis present are often very weak.
