South Mumbai’s Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora’s was disappointed after his Air India flight was to Delhi was delayed and there was “no communication” from the airlines.
The leader mentioned that the flight was delayed by over two hours but what let him down was that there was “zero communication from Air India”. Deora said that the situation was even more disheartening as he has been a “long-time advocate for privatisation of loss-making B2C (business-to-consumer) and PSUs (Public Sector Undertaking).
“It’s disappointing to see Air India’s service deteriorate under Tata Group,” he added.
My @airindia flight to Delhi delayed by over 2 hours. I understand it’s because of bad weather in Delhi but zero communication? As a long-time advocate for privatisation of loss-making B2C PSUs, it’s disappointing to see #Airindia’s service deteriorate under @TataCompanies.— Milind Deora | Milind Devra (@milinddeora) May 2, 2025
Replying to him Air India wrote on X, “Dear Mr. Deora, we understand the importance of timely communication. While the weather situation in Delhi did impact operations, we’ll certainly get this checked and ensure your feedback is acted upon. Could you please share your flight details via DM? We appreciate you highlighting this (sic).”
In January 2022, Tata Group acquired Air India from the government, offering a fresh start for the debt-laden, unprofitable, and inefficient national carrier that had been mismanaged by previous governments.
Two years into the acquisition, Tata is still navigating the turnaround process, though it has a strategy in place to restore the airline’s former prestige. This includes merging its four airlines: Vistara, co-owned with Singapore Airlines, and Air India into a full-service carrier, while combining Air India Express with AIX Connect to form a low-cost airline.
Despite implementing several measures to revive the struggling airline, Tata has yet to achieve the high status Air India once held before its nationalisation in 1953.
