Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2025: China’s Foreign Ministry said on Monday (28 April 2025) that preparations are going on between the two countries to resume the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra for Indian pilgrims during this summer season. This journey will be resumed after a gap of about five years. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said that the pilgrimage of Indian devotees of Kailash Mountains and Mansarovar in the Tibetan Autonomous region of China is an important part of the cultural relations of the two countries.

China’s statement about Kailash Mansarovar Yatra

According to the consent between China and India, pilgrimage will be resumed in this summer season. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said that both sides are busy preparing necessary at this time. He said that this year is the 75th anniversary of China-India diplomatic relations. He said that China is ready to work with India to carry forward the important consensus between the leaders of both countries and to increase the strong and stable development of bilateral relations.

Travel will start in 5 and 10 batches

Last week, the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi had announced that the yatra will be from June to August to two routes- Lipulekh Pass in Uttarakhand and Nathu La in Sikkim. This pilgrimage has religious significance for Hindus as well as Jains and Buddhists. The Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement issued on 26 April that this year, crossing the Lipulekh Pass from Uttarakhand and Nathu La Pass from Sikkim, will travel pilgrims in five batches and 10 batches (50 devotees in each) respectively.

The yatra was postponed in 2020 due to the Military Defecation between the two sides on the Line of Actual Control in East Ladakh, Kovid-19 epidemic and then in East Ladakh. India and China had completed the process of withdrawal of soldiers from two places confronted in Demchok and Depsang as part of an agreement on October 21 last year.

Meetings held to normalize bilateral relations

After this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi And Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks in the Russian city of Kazan and agreed to restore various bilateral dialogues. After talks between PM Modi and Xi Jinping, in the last few months, both sides held several meetings with the aim of normalizing bilateral relations. This journey is being described as the first step in the measures being taken by both countries to normalize relations.
