Mpox In China: There was already chaos in China due to HMPV virus, now a new strain of the virus has created panic in the country. Chinese health officials said on Thursday (January 09, 2025) that they have detected the new Mpox strain clade IB. After the World Health Organization declared it a global public health emergency last year, this viral infection is spreading in many countries.
According to a Reuters report, China’s Center for Disease Control and Prevention said that clade 1B of monkeypox is already present in some African countries including Congo and it started from there after being infected by a foreign person. Four more new cases have been found after coming in contact with a foreign national. The symptoms of the patients are mild. There are rashes and blisters on his skin.
Measures being taken to prevent MPOX
The National Health Commission said that Mpox will be managed as a Category B infectious disease. Officials will be able to take emergency measures. Such as preventing gatherings, suspending work and school, and sealing off areas when the disease spreads. China had said in August last year that it would monitor the people and goods entering the country through MPOCS.
How does mpox spread?
Mpox spreads through close contact. It causes flu-like symptoms and pus-filled wounds on the body. Although it is usually not that fatal, in rare cases it can also be fatal. For the second time in the last two years, WHO declared MPOX a global public health emergency last August. This step was taken after the outbreak of monkeypox in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
This variant has spread from DRC to neighboring countries Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda, due to which the World Health Organization has declared a state of emergency.
