In southern Thailand and Malaysia, monsoon rains have caused disastrous floods that have killed scores of people and forced others to flee their homes. At least 25 individuals have lost their lives in flood-related incidents, and more than 3,00,000 homes have been severely impacted, according to Thailand’s Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation. Social media users have been horrified by one particular video among heartbreaking images of rescue and evacuation operations. It shows a massive reticulated python that is said to have reportedly swallowed a dog and was seen floating in floodwaters.
The enormous snake with a protruding tummy is floating along a waterlogged road in the footage, which was shot on December 1 in Pattani province. “This giant snake, probably a Reticulated Python, was seen bobbing around in the floodwater in Southern Thailand,” the clip was captioned and posted to X (formerly Twitter).

Shared on December 5, the video has received over 11.9 million views on X. Many people have expressed their fear of snakes in their diverse comments.

“Snakes are not my thing,” a user on X said.
“I refuse to believe this is real. Please tell me it’s not real,” another remarked.

The reticulated python, one of the largest snake species in the world, is thought to be the snake seen in the video, according to many speculations. They can reach a length of more than 20 feet, according to the Atlanta Zoo. Along their back, there are “complex, diamond-shaped patterns.” The teeth of pythons are sharp and recurved in several rows.
Meanwhile, Thailand has recently had deluges of rain, and the seemingly never-ending rains have caused chaos, including floods that have killed people and forced hundreds to flee their homes.
The spokesperson for Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health claimed in a statement that more than a thousand individuals had been forced to flee their houses in five southern provinces: Pattani, Narathiwat, Songkhla, Nakhon Si Thammarat, and Phatthalung. This was reported by UCA News.
